Alternative Ways to Capture your Reception Photos

Wedding reception photos are all about capturing the biggest and best party of your life. To truly capture the memories, you need to be able to capture all of your guests enjoying  the party. There are a few creative ways to do just that:

Disposable Cameras

Your wedding photographer is paid to get stylish shots of you and your bridal party.  If you want to capture your wedding through your guests’ eyes, handing out Disposable cameras allow you to capture fun candid shots of everyone. Disposable cameras can be great fun! On the flip side, sometimes guests who have had too many libations get a little camera crazy, and you may end up with pics of less desirable objects. Although disposable cameras are still a popular option, the photos are rarely any good with minimal number of ‘keepers’. Photos are usually very dark (due to the low power of the flash and relatively dark environment of a reception).

There are however  much better alternatives to disposable cameras for your reception photos.

Photo Booths

Hiring a photo booth to capture hilarious pictures of your wedding guests enjoying themselves has been a growing trend in recent years. Having your own photo booth creates a fun and lively vibe for you and your guests (of all ages) to enjoy! Not only will it be a big hit on the day but will be a talking point that will have your wedding discussed long after the event. A photo booth provides great shots for your guest book and wedding album as well as entertainment and a keepsake for your guests.

Polaroid camera

You can set up a photo station where guest can take photos of themselves with a Polaroid camera. At this photo station you can have an album for the Polaroids to be glued in and a message left by whoever was in the photo. A second photo can also be taken of the guests to be kept by them. For the best results, assign one or two people to take photos, change films and look after the album.

Digital Camera

You can buy a cheapish digital camera to be passed around at the reception. Make sure you appoint someone to be in charge of the camera so it doesn’t disappear. Remember to take your charger and spare memory cards.

CD/DVD

A really clever idea is to post a blank DVD/CD with your thank you cards asking your guests for any photos from your wedding day. For the best response with this request, include a stamped self addressed Disc envelope. The easier you make it for your friends and family, the more likely you are to see the photos. Let them know in your note that they don’t need to edit, rename or number the photos – simply burn to disc and post.

Amateur Photographer

There are many great amateur photographers that would jump at the chance of a paid wedding shoot – even if it’s only the reception. You can contact photography students that would love the experience. Just make sure you ask for complete usage rights of the files so you can print, email and post photos to Facebook. This should be spelled out in some form of signed document.

Creating a Vision Board

Visualization is of paramount importance in successfully realizing your goals.  Creating a vision board for your wedding keeps you on track when it comes to taking the next step in your planning process.

Let’s look at the various steps in creating a functional vision board. It is most crucial to get clear about your goals: what you want to ACHIEVE!
A well designed vision board should be:

Visual

Start collating colourful pictures from magazines or anywhere else.  These pictures must be compelling to you and congruent with your goals.  Your subconscious mind works in pictures and images, so make your vision board as visual as possible with as many pictures as you can. Make sure that each image that you put on your board resonates with your heart and makes you excited every time you look at it. You can supplement your pictures with quotes and phrases to increase the emotional response you get from it. Your vision board should evoke a positive emotional response from you. The mere sight of your vision board should make you happy and fuel your passion to achieve your goals every time you look at it. Photo link: brianandjennie.com

Personal

Your vision board should make sense for you and really fit in your true goals. Arrange your pictures creatively in a way that gives you an emotional connection to your board. You don’t need to be artistic.  The point is that your board should resonate with your emotions.  When you are satisfied with your arrangement; start pasting your images onto your board.   Additionally, you might want to add power words; motivational quotes or drawings to your board if you feel that they would better resonate with your emotions.  Decorate your board in any other way to make it personal and powerful for you. Strategically-placed.

You should have maximum visual exposure to your vision board. Some people have it in their room; on the ceiling above their bed so it is the last thing they see when they go to bed and the first thing they see when they wake up.  Others have it in their lounge room or in their office.  You need to constantly bath your subconscious mind with it’s energy in order to manifest your desires. Negative feelings, self-doubt, and criticism can damage the delicate energy that your vision board emits. If you fear criticism or justification of your vision board from others, then place it in a private location so it can only be seen by yourself. Photo link: lovebrownsugar.com

Vision boards are an important tool in your success. They are cheap and fun to make and their potential value to you is immeasurable. So go ahead and get started on your vision board and start pulling your wedding dreams into reality!

Would you EAT your wedding dress?

Choosing the wedding dress is the most important and exciting wedding purchase a bride will do. As much fun as shopping for a wedding dress can be, it can also seem like quite a daunting and difficult task if you don’t have an idea of what you want — trust me I know from experience.

The wedding dress sets the tone for the wedding, but what happens when you choose something that might be a little bit unique; like an edible wedding dress.
